Promotional Video Design Process:

Past campaign videos I took inspiration from:

Critical Reflection:

For the promotional video, I took inspiration from two past campaign videos on sexual abuse. From campaign video (1), the opening sequence shows half a woman's face and words appearing on the screen one word at a time. I liked the use of this as it ensured the audience paid full attention to understand what was happening. I did a similar technique with my opening sequence, by adding four different women saying one word each to ensure the audience pay full attention if they want to see and hear what each woman says. The four words equalled 'I am a survivor', which for a starting sentence, is quite abrupt and shocking which also aimed to draw in the audience from the beginning.
From campaign video (2), the use of having extreme portrait close-ups was very interesting to me as it felt almost as though that actor was speaking directly to the audience, which felt very personal. I took this as inspiration and added it to my promotional video too, where you meet the survivors, and they state how they were sexually abused. This again is very intense and hard to look away from, with the aim to ensure the audience have a full understanding of the topic of the docu-series before they watch it.
After researching into campaign videos, I drew up a mock storyboard to give myself an understanding of what to film for each section of the video. I knew it would only be short; up to 30 seconds, so I knew each shot had to be quick but attention grabbing which is why I chose to create such intense scenes.
Overall, I am pleased with the outcome of the promotional video, especially since it was filmed on an iPhone and edited on iMovie, due to not having the facilities we would usually have at university. The quality of the video could be better, however I didn't have access to a video camera, but the scenes are attention grabbing and give the audience a good understanding of what the docu-series is about which was my main goal.
For the background sound, I used garage band to record five different audio recordings of news reports taken from YouTube. I edited them together so that they overlapped and sounded like a collage of fast-paced reports. I then took some dramatic music, also taken from YouTube and layered this over the top of the news audio to create the tense background sound. This was a new technique, which I hadn't been taught before, however I grasped the concept of layering the audio on garage band quickly and had fun whilst editing and putting the sound together. I then used Airdrop to export the sound onto the video.
