Critical Reflection Introduction
P2507594
This is the introduction to my critical reflection for MEDS3109 Project 3.
My critical reflection will be split up, there will be a critical reflection for each design aspect I created for my project. By clicking on the tile named 'Posters' for example, you will see the critical reflection for the posters along with the final poster designs.
The overall aim for this project was to come up with a creative design idea and bring it to life either through coding a website or design editing skills.
My chosen project was to create a Netflix docu-series, based on a charity I volunteer for called 'Quetzal' who are a local charity based in Leicester, supporting women who have suffered from childhood sexual abuse.
My ideas for this project were to create a Netflix docu-series based on Quetzal, consisting of 5 episodes and each episode discussing a different form of sexual abuse. Each episode would show a different survivor, who has been to Quetzal for support from one form of sexual abuse, that episode would go through the process of how Quetzal supported and led them back to recovery.
My project would consist of the advertising for the docu-series. I created five posters, one for each episode, a logo for the series, three website pages, two Instagram posts, three Netflix banners and a promotional video.
When doing research for my project design, I noticed that the 'Our Planet' docu-series also on Netflix, had a very similar advertising plan to my ideas. I used their advertising aspects as a guide for my own designs too, I also took inspiration from Netflix's layout designs for posters, banners and promotional videos. These will become apparent in the specific design critical reflections, for each of the six advertising aspects I created.
Overall, when comparing my finalised project to the initial project specification I am pleased with the final outcome. I stuck to the time frame, which helped to organise what I would be doing each week and gave me personal deadlines too, to ensure I stayed on track. When looking back on the agreed project objectives, I ended up creating two more advertising aspects which I initially did not plan on doing, these were: The promotional video and a logo. I created these due to having more time at the end of completing my initial project than I anticipated, so to improve and increase the advertising aspects of the docu-series, I decided to create two more design aspects. Without these, I feel as though my final project would not look as strong or as similar to a real Netflix docu-series as it does now.
If I were to improve any part of my project, I would have created more social media posts to increase online advertising. As I only created two posts, which made the Instagram account look quite bland and unorganised, compared to the 'Our Planet' Instagram account. I would have also spent more time on the promotional video, using better equipment to film and edit my video. However, due to COVID-19 and not having the facilities we would have at university, this was not an option at the time.
