Logo Design
Final Logo Design:
Critical Reflection:
This is the final logo design for the docu-series, I wanted it to be simple, bold and large. This was to fit the theme of the overall docu-series which had a dark theme throughout.
As you can see, I have kept the name of the charity that this project is based on as I think the meaning behind it is very important:
'The Quetzal is native Central and South American bird which was caught for its beautiful head and tail feathers and caged. Legend has it that it dies when caged. The support Quetzal has to offer helps to break down the bars of psychological cages for women who are recovering from the trauma of childhood sexual abuse.' (Quetzal.org.uk)
I wanted to incorporate the Quetzal bird into the logo, as it is a defining feature in the meaning behind the charity. I also put it in a cage, because as the quote above states, Quetzals were caught and caged for their beautiful feathers. I think that this final design gives a good first introduction to the docu-series, it is bold and easily recognisable which is a great advertising aspect.
Logo Design Process:
This was my initial logo design, you can see, a lot has changed. I wanted the logo to be the colours of the Quetzal bird, however, once I had created this, I realised it wasn't the theme I was going for. The colours were too bright, and the font wasn't bold enough. The logo made the theme of the docu-series look less serious and more comical.

These next few logo designs fitted more in with the theme which I was going for. They were darker, bolder and gave the audience more of an understanding on the seriousness of the docu-series. However, as you can see, I couldn't quite decide what to do with the Quetzal bird and the cage.
I played around with different areas to place it, but I knew that if the cage hung too low below the text, it would effect the layout of posters.
You can also see from these designs that I had a play around with different fonts too, they were all bold and large. However my favourite was the most simplest with no shadow text behind it, straight to the point.
I decided in the end to make the 'Q' in Quetzal the caged bird, by editing the birds tail on Photoshop to give it more of a flick like a 'Q'. This turned out well and I am much happier with the final logo design. The logo is now more compact and easily transferred onto posters, banners and other advertising platforms.
